Who moved?

The old story goes:
The elderly couple was riding to town in their pickup truck when the woman looked at her husband as he drove.
“You never sit beside me anymore when we go places.”
Her husband glances at her and quietly says,
“Honey, I’m driving, I haven’t moved.”

God has promised to be NEAR to all who call on Him.
Jesus is Immanuel, God WITH us.

So, why do we feel as though He is missing in action?

Like the driver of the truck, God hasn’t moved. He hasn’t changed. He hasn’t drifted. He is right there where He has always been. If we’re not sensing His presence near us, the fault isn’t His.

Don’t receive this as condemnation! Hear me out.

Just like toddlers and teens, we test our newfound abilities by testing our boundaries. We take one more step to see if things change and if they don’t, we take another and another.

We keep doing this until we suddenly need that comfort and strength we thought we could do without, and we wonder where He went.

It’s perfectly natural to do this. The trouble is, there’s a ravening lion out there who wants to steal, kill, and destroy you. He uses every subtle lie to cause you to see things that aren’t there or miss things that are. He twists truth. He is the father of lies. And your heart, your sweet, precious heart, leans toward him and believes the deceit.

We think faith is a matter of the heart, and to a degree it is, but faith involves a lot of thinking. Whatever situation you’re in, you have to think about your choices then decide the action you’ll take.
You’ll choose to handle it on your own, ask for human help, or surrender to God and seek His help.

Your heart won’t remember that God is near you, listening for your heart’s cry of praise or petition. Your feelings will believe the lie that God has left you, but your mind can remind those feelings of the truth.

Learn the truth, Believer. Let it permeate your very soul so that when a decision has to be made, you’ll make it from the high ground of God’s wisdom. If you’re not feeling close to God, get moving. Race back toward Him, Prodigal. He’s waiting and watching for you and will meet you on the road to envelop you with His grace and mercy and infinite love.

Trust what you know, not what you feel.
He is near to those who call.
Call.
