Let’s see some hands, who among us is always patient and kind?
Great. Thanks.
Again, raise your hand if you’re never jealous, boastful or proud.
Thank you.
See, none of are ALWAYS patient and kind. None of us are NEVER jealous, boastful, or proud.
Does that mean we don’t love? Not at all. It means that we’re not perfect. Love is perfect, because God is love.
What we experience here is love in and through broken, fallible people like us and often has no semblance of the love that God is.
How do we fix that? How can we love better?
The answer is simple. The execution, not so much.
Seek God First.
When we read the Bible, pray with listening ears, and pay attention to the Holy Spirit who lives in all believers, we grow closer to Love. As we grow closer to Him, spending time in His presence, we start to act like Him.
That’s the hard part, though, the carry through. We can commit to do this all day long, but until we take the necessary steps consistently, nothing changes.
Whether you’re a boyfriend or girlfriend, a husband or wife, a mom or dad, a son or daughter, a niece or nephew, a friend, you can know Love by spending time with Him. You will exhibit Love as a result of spending that time in His presence. It may not be reciprocated by anyone here on Earth, but God has already demonstrated His love for us with an undeniable passion.
Let’s start today. Perhaps we can forgo the time reading the holiday cards and read a chapter or two of scripture instead. Bonus points if it’s with your loved one. Try the whole of 1 Corinthians 13 or 1 John 4.
The closer we are to Jesus, the more like Him we become.
Coffee, Bible, Journal.
