I might be the most successful person in the world, but if I don’t love others, I’m just another noise like a toddler with a drum set in a world of toddlers with drum sets.
I don’t want to just be another noise in the lives of people. I want to add value to them, to make even a moment of their lives better.
I want to love them.
What’s that look like?
The Amplified Version expands “love” into “that reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion such as is inspired by God’s love for and in us.”
Thus to truly love others, I should have a devotion for people that is:
- reasoned
- intentional
- spiritual
- inspired by God’s love
Loving others is devotion to them, it’s cheering them on and correcting them when wrong. It’s expecting the best and helping through the worst.
Loving others begins in my mind. It is reasoned out. It is conceived and determined.
Loving others is carried out in action planned and executed. Thinking about it isn’t enough, it’s the carrying through that is love.
Loving others is carried in my spirit. It’s part of me, the spirit in me, charged by the Spirit of God, acting in the best interest of the spirit in that person.
Loving others is inspired by God’s love for me and them. I can’t love others in and of myself. I’m not that good. But when I look at how God has loved me, I can look at those whom He has created in His image and love them well.
No matter how amazing we are, no matter how far God has brought us, if we don’t love others in this God-like way, we’re just more noise in a world of noise.
When we actively, intentionally love by choice we become more than the noise, we become the calm, the peace, that people need. When we’ve shown ourselves loving, we can explain where that love comes from so that believers and unbelievers alike can experience God.
