“Why did you make us leave Egypt?” the Israelites asked Moses. “Let us be slaves to the Egyptians!”
God had led the People out of the land of captivity. They left with their fists raised in defiance. Then He had them double back in such a way that Pharaoh thought them lost and wandering and sent out all the forces of his army against them.
The People cowered in fear, raising their voices against Moses and God, believing their end was in sight.
How many times are we just like those Israelites? We’ve been captive to something for so long it’s just another aspect of our lives, yet we long for a freedom we can only dream of. We see the way of escape and head out on it, fists raised in defiance of the enemy who keeps us prisoner. Then, troubles come. The way is rough. The enemy comes after us, unwilling to let go.

We faint. We falter. We cry out against the One leading us to true freedom as though He has deceived us. Rather than drop us and leave us to our enemy’s devices, the Almighty reveals His plan and rescues us to set us on our feet and guide us through the life He designed us for.
All we have to do is hold our peace and remain at rest.
AT REST????? With the enemy bearing down on us????
In a nutshell, yes.
You don’t have the strength to take up bow, spear, or shield to battle your previous captor. You just don’t. But your God does. Sit back and let your Rescuer be who He is and do what He says He will do. Just stay close to Him and rest.
It’s the ultimate taking of action upon your faith. Rather than take up arms to enter the fray, you lean back and allow the Lord to handle it? That’s courage and faith that can only come from an abiding relationship with God.
No matter what has held you captive, Believer, Jesus has set you free. It may feel hard and seem that your jailer is riding hard after you, but he doesn’t win when you refuse to give in. Lean back and rest. Watch as your Savior whips the tar out of that enemy, utterly destroying him.
