How to Get Everything You Need

What drives you? What keeps you getting up day after day, pushing and striving? What is your ultimate goal?

As a believer, the deepest answer should be “God’s kingdom and His righteousness.”

I’m sure many of you answered my questions with, “providing for my family,” or “paying for a place to live,” or “feeding my family.” Those are a way of life, right?

Speaking to His listeners with those same concerns, Jesus set them on their ears when He spoke these words. He had just covered the heavy topic of anxiety. He pointed out that God takes great care of the birds of the air and the flowers in the fields. He reminded them that those were not as valuable to God as the humans He had created, so the humans really didn’t need to worry about that stuff either.

Jesus said that what we should be most concerned about is God’s kingdom and His way of doing right—His character and attitude. He went on to say that when we focus on those, all the other would be added to us—the food, drink, clothing.

Yes, we’re to continue to work to provide the things for ourselves and our families, but we must recognize that even when we’re “providing,” it’s actually God doing so through the job He gave us or the gifts He has provided.

Instead of going into each day with anxiety and concerns about what if this and what if that, we should focus on God’s attitude toward our circumstances and His character in the midst of each situation, then emulate that. Of course, on our own, that emulation is a weak attempt, but with the Holy Spirit living in us, that emulation blossoms and becomes a witness to those around us of God’s power and provision.

Trust God to be who He says He is and that He will do what He says He will do. He will meet your needs. Every day. Sometimes in the most amazing way. Look to Him first, then see what He does and praise Him for it all.
