I have heard so many times that a believer is a sinner saved by grace. While that’s true, I believe Paul shared this greater truth:
That’s right, Believer, YOU are the righteousness of God in Christ. Not because of anything you did, but because God is merciful and powerful and loves you so much!
For our sakes, God made Jesus, who never knew sin, did sin, touch sin, to virtually BE sin on our behalf. His plan was that in and through salvation through Jesus we would become endued with, viewed as being in, and examples of the righteousness of God – what we ought to be, approved and acceptable and in right relationship with God by His goodness. (See the Amplified translation.)
WHAT AN EXCHANGE!
What was finished on that despicable cross was the lifting of our sins from us to be placed on Jesus while His righteousness was lifted from Him and placed on us.
My friend, as a believer, you are not just a sinner saved by grace. That kind of thinking can keep you susceptible to the enemy’s wiles. You ARE the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus! You ARE acceptable to God. You have a character that is good and right just as God is good and right.
Wait a minute, though. This is not something to become arrogant about. It’s humbling to think that God removed that cloak of righteousness from Christ and laid it on us! This is something to keep in the forefront of our minds as we walk through this life. It helps us keep a right perspective about ourselves and others. It helps us resist the devil and his lies about us.
Give it a try today! Look in the mirror and say, “You are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus,” and revel in that truth. As you go through your day and you feel less than, say it out loud, “I AM the righteousness of God in Christ!” announcing to yourself and the spiritual realms that you are not a cowering soul, but a victorious one.
Walk with the realization of what God did for you today and forevermore.
