Psalms 27 is a beautiful work by David, the shepherd boy who became king. Here he writes of God’s goodness and mercy. He seeks God’s instruction about how to live, and in the final words, instructs others to wait patiently for the Lord, bravely and courageously.
Long ago, my first father-in-law talked about how we were becoming too fast. He said the microwave was teaching us to hurry everything up. I think he was right. I see myself expecting things to be done in a snap. I can get frustrated to the point of anger if I don’t catch myself to remember that that issue is more important than 30 seconds and a ding.
We want what we want and we want it right now. We want conflict resolution in 30 minutes or less, reconciliation in the heartbeat after the “I’m sorry.” We want to pray and see the answer in the breath after the “amen.”
God doesn’t work on our timetable. No, He has a plan and our frustration over what we deem His slowness will not hurry or delay it. We move to meet Him, not the other way around. We just need to live within that concept.
There are prayers I’ve been praying over 25 years now without seeing the results I’m asking for. Do I stop praying? Should I give up? Should I believe that God hasn’t answered? NO!!! I haven’t seen God’s yes yet, but I’m not sure if His answer is no or not yet. So, I continue praying.
In these times of waiting for answers, life can feel hard and unsettled. Fear, chaos, frustration, and anger can all take up residence in our hearts and minds.
We must instead remember that God is always good. His answers are always right. We can trust Him to give the answers we need in His perfect timing. We can be brave and courageous in our waiting, and glorify Him as we PATIENTLY wait on Him, knowing that He is who He says He is and He will do what He says He will do.

One last note: Believer, if you think you can’t wait patiently, go back and examine the fruit of the Spirit. Patience is there, in you, ready to be exercised as you have need of it.
