Why should I honor God?

Sometimes we find ourselves thinking we are without reason to praise and honor God’s name. We look for reasons and we’re just not seeing them. We are operating on the misguided notion that His praise and honor are to be based upon what He does for us.

God is God. He has been since before light existed. He is so powerful He spoke light and life into existence. He created time. He used dust to form man and man’s rib to form woman. His breath filling their lungs brought life to them.

God is Sovereign above all others. He alone can say something will be so and it’s a promise you can bank on. What He has said would be has been. (Yes, I know, there are some prophecies that He has not fulfilled, but His track record is worthy of praise.)

God is love. Always. Even when mankind was in direct rebellion to Him — like today — He came to the earth and walked around as a man. He accepted heinous torture at the hands of men He could have killed with a breath. He loved us enough to take our sins upon Himself so that we would not have to suffer the penalty of them, eternal death—a forever separation from God and all He is.

It’s hard to live in the here and now, dealing with aches and pains and crime and words and drama and death and stress and think we have reason to honor God. We question whether He even cares about us and what’s going on.

Oh, Believer! Remember that God inhabits the praise of His people. Bring Him into your every situation by lifting praise to Him. Speak your praise. Let the enemy know he doesn’t reign, God does.

Today is a fine day to begin practicing this! Looking back over all of history, share something for which He is worthy of honor and praise.

Coffee, Bible, Journal.
