Are your words and thoughts about YOU pleasing to God?

God called the shepherd-boy-made-king, David, a man after His own heart. These words in Psalms 19 may reveal to us how that came to be.

So many times we read these words and think about the words we say to and about others and the thoughts we have regarding them.

What about us? The words we say to us? The thoughts we have regarding us? Are those pleasing to God?

It wasn’t until I was 55 years old that I would speak in complimentary ways about myself. Oh, there was that date night or really good hair day that I would say I looked good, but in the next breath would be calling myself an idiot for something else.

I think we are most definitely to be mindful of the words we say to others, and we’re supposed to marshal our thoughts, holding them captive to be like Christ’s, but I also think we’re supposed to do the same for ourselves.

I am not talking about the arrogance that says you’re all that and a bag of chips, but the recognition that you are an amazing person, created in the image of God by God Himself, designed beautifully for a purpose. He made you smart, beautiful, and capable of so many things! You may not be smart in all areas, but that’s why He gave you a mind able to receive knowledge and use it.

Think about the words you say to and about yourself (thinking these counts, too).

“You are so ugly!”
“You’re so stupid.”
“You are an idiot!”
“You can’t do anything right.”
“You are worthless.”
… and others.

When you say these things about yourself, you are reinforcing the lies that the enemy wants to use for your destruction. You are telling God that he messed up in His creation of you. That’s not pleasing or acceptable to God.

It’s time to replace those with good things about yourself and to realize that much of what you’re doing is comparing yourself to others. Are you REALLY ugly? Or is your beauty different than what the trend for beauty currently is?

It’s time to take these words from David to heart and corral our tongues and thoughts about ourselves. If you can’t call you beautiful yet, change the statement to “I am NOT ugly” and “I am not stupid” or “I made a mistake, but I’m not an idiot.”

Soon you’ll be able to compliment you as the wonderfully made person God says you are. Try it today. Every time one of those ugly statements about you comes up, stop it in its tracks and speak good things to you. Think and remember what God says about you. Accept compliments with a simple thank you.

May the words of your mouth about you and the meditations of your heart toward yourself be acceptable and pleasing to the Lord, your Rock and Redeemer.

A few extra thoughts from today’s video…

Oh, y’all! I have said all those statements about myself in the past. Fortunately, there has come a time when I understood that these things are not of God. These thoughts don’t come from Him. He says that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. He says that I’m his daughter. He says that I’m created In his image, he calls me a princess. You could be too.

The thing is, we hear these things from society. When we don’t measure up to what society thinks, you know, I may not have a 600 IQ. I don’t think that’s possible. But I may not have this ginormous IQ. And I may not be the raving beauty, that would get looks on TV. But I am a beautiful woman who has smarts where she needs them. I am capable, I am able, and anything that I don’t know how to do, I know people who do and I know how to find out. And you do, too.

You are not worthless. Almighty God sees you as worth his very own death on the cross. And yes, you can say, Oh, that’s fine. Oh, yeah, yeah, that’s fine. Doesn’t matter. Anything right here right now. It doesn’t mean anything to me today. But yes, it does. Think about that. Almighty God, the God of the universe, the one who spoke everything into existence, decided that you were worth dying for.

He left the portals of heaven, and walked on this planet, received rebukes and recriminations and all kinds of ugliness, just so He could welcome you into His fold. And rescue you from hell. You are worth a powerful, powerful amount. And he sees your worth not only in that aspect, but He thinks that you’re worthy, because He has a purpose designed for you. And He wants you to step into that purpose. You are worth a lot to Him. And you’re worth a lot to the people around you to, even if they don’t know how to say so.

I hope that you find these truths for yourself. I hope that you recognize how much you mean to God. I would hope I would challenge you to look through the Scripture and find the ways that he describes us and choose to walk in those truths instead of believing the lies.

If you’d like to talk more message me, I can help with some of that.
