When we make a choice that leads to undesirable consequences, what do we do? We grieve. We are sorry. Some are sorry they even thought about the choice in the first place, while others grieve the fact that they were caught and are suffering those consequences.
Every decision has a consequence. Every single one. Some bring good consequences: joy, happiness, business success, personal success, good health, peace, and happiness. Others bring pain, fear, hurt feelings, loss of money, relationships, and freedom.
God has an opinion on the grief we feel in these circumstances. He wants this grief to be the kind that leads us away from the sin we chose and into relationship with Him. That’s the kind of grief and sorrow that leaves no regrets.
That sorrow that’s only over being caught? That leads us to rebellion against law, society, and God. Not a good place. There’s no change of thought or behavior in that. This is the sort of grief that develops bitterness, hatred, and leads us in the paths of UNrighteousness – not in right standing with God.
Whatever choices you’ve made, may the grief you experience be the kind that brings you into relationship with your Creator. May you recognize His unfailing, unconditional love toward you. May you choose to step out of rebellion to Him and into life everlasting. There’s peace there.
Peace with no regrets.
