Know Him to Live in the Light

As usual when examining a scripture, I have looked at various translations and mostly they agree, though some give a more expanded version of the words.

Today, though, I’m challenged. There seems to be two thoughts in the translations about who the “each other” is.

Most translations don’t expound on it, leading the reader toward that meaning other believers. The Amplified Bible’s translation intimates that the unbroken fellowship is with God.

Either one is an interesting thought, that when we live in conformity with the precepts of God, we will have true, unbroken, fellowship with other believers and/or true unbroken fellowship with Him.

The question then becomes, HOW do we walk and live in the light? HOW do we live each and every day in compliance and conformity with His precepts found in His Word? HOW do we stay so close to Him?

First, we have to know Him. Realizing how holy and righteous He is, that His ways and thoughts are far beyond our own is paramount. We must understand that HE is sovereign and what He says, is. We must enter a relationship with Him through salvation found only in Jesus Christ.

We must know His precepts. We must study the scriptures to learn who God is and what He has said. When we seek Him in this way, He has promised to be found. We learn His precepts, His wishes, in the pages of the scriptures, then we determine that we will agree with them and bring ourselves into obedience to them.

The thing is, we can’t just do the learning and choice to comply once and be done. We must continue this search for Him, for His ways, for His will. This is that drawing near to Him that is required. Just like we want to snuggle with our child or spouse to spend precious moments with them, we need to snuggle close to our Heavenly Father to spend precious moments with Him.

Let’s start today, Believer. Let’s spend time digging into the scripture and following what it says. Let’s talk to God and listen at least as long. Let’s live in the Light like Jesus did and we’ll experience true, unbroken fellowship with Him and fellow believers.

Coffee, Bible, Journal.
