SEEK: God, righteousness, humility

You have to know that the seeking Zephaniah spoke of wasn’t like trying to find your car keys. It’s way more than that.

It’s the kind of seeking where you not only inquire OF Him but you inquire FOR Him. It’s the kind of seeking where you REQUIRE him as the foremost necessity of your life. Even more than the air you breathe.

The humble are more than those who put others first, too. The concept is those who have acted in compliance with God’s revealed will and who have kept His commandments.

We’re given a threefold instruction here:

   1. Seek God

   2. Seek righteousness

   3. Seek humility

So, if we seek God by inquiring of Him and for Him, requiring Him as the foremost necessity of our lives, how are we supposed to seek the other two?

We’re to ask for them and require them as vital. As in, necessary for life. As in, right up there with oxygen.

Yeah, seems pretty impossible, right? 2 Corinthians 5:21 tells us that through salvation, we become the righteousness of God in Christ. So simple we can take it for granted when we never should.

And seeking humility? I don’t really like being humiliated. It’s not fun to be laughed at.

When we walk noonday-shadow close to the Savior, we will walk in the humility He did. He trusted God so much that He didn’t refuse the terrible, shameful death on the Cross. It was humiliating. He stepped out of the splendor of Heaven to walk on the earth with the beings He had created. Talk about humility! Jesus chose to walk humbly, even though He was worthy of praise, and the highest honors. We can follow that if we believe that this concept is vital to our very lives. Once again, just as important as oxygen.

We can remember three things, right? Sure we can. Several times during the day today, as you take in a breath, breathing in that crucial oxygen, think about seeking God. Consider Him. Focus on Him. Then, as you exhale, pray. Ask God for the righteousness and humility He wants from you. Keep your heart in the position of requiring both as vital, crucial, and necessary for the next breath. Then watch. Listen. Trust. Expect. Believe. Receive.
