It’s impossible to pray constantly

As I write this morning, my background ‘music’ is a number of pastors along with community, state, and national leaders praying for our nation as part of the National Day of Prayer. I’m normally standing in a field hearing them in person. In this time when gatherings over ten aren’t permitted, I’m grateful that the organizer and participants went the extra mile and didn’t give up on this very important event.

Today’s scriptural reminder is to NEVER stop praying. Never. Not ever. At no time. Not in any way. Not under any condition.

Whoa. That’s pretty much impossible; isn’t it? I mean, how can I order my Starbucks in the drive-thru if I have to be praying constantly? How can I even drive there? Yeah, no.

Never stop praying is a missive for our inner selves. As ever, God is much more concerned for our heart position than our outer behavior. He knows that when our heart is correct, our behavior will be correct.

We can constantly remain in a prayerful mindset. When we are, no matter what happens – good or bad – we will respond to it with grace and compassion born of God. When our hearts are always turned toward God, we won’t seek solutions to problems in our own power. That’s important, y’all. It’s imperative that we recognize God as the one and only Sovereign Lord of all. When we do, we remove ourselves from the throne of our lives and serve Him instead, however that looks.

This constant, unending prayer connecting our heart to God’s not only makes our requests known to Him, but brings our heart into line with His.

This constant, unending prayer connecting our heart to God’s not only makes our requests known to Him, but brings our heart into line with His.

Let’s give it a try starting today. Let’s bow our hearts in praise, confession, gratitude, petition, and intercession and hold them there. Let us meet every thought, every instance of stress, every question with prayer – whether we slow down to voice the words or not.
